The Primer Club del Ford T de Argentina, as it is known in Spanish, or First Model T Ford Club of Argentina was born as a chapter of the Model T Ford Club, International on the 15th of December 1996 in the city of Cordoba. We were 11 founding members and we held periodic meetings to make plans for our first large event to be held the next year.
Our first Model T club meeting and tour took place in September 1997, with 20 cars (19 from Cordoba and one from Buenos Aires) which gave the meeting a national character. The Club then prospered and began to grow like weeds in the next months and years. This first meeting and tour was also the start of uninterrupted annual commemorative Ford T meetings. With people coming not only from other, far away Argentinean provinces, but also from Uruguay.
Our inland province of Cordoba was the best choice for the Ford T meetings. The mountainous topography, plenty of charming landscapes and quaint towns make the site the most appropriate for enjoying the driving of a Tin Lizzie on curving, winding paved roads. In order to avoid repetition, we decided to change the Ford T meeting town every year. So far we have held annual meetings and tours from 1997 untill 2007 in La Falda, Los Cocos, Cosquin, Villa Giardino, Valle Hermoso, Ascochinga, Carlos Paz and La Cumbre. Every year the number of participants and the number of Ford T cars increase vigorously as does the enthusiasm and the interest for our beloved Tin Lizzie. This past September in La Cumbre we had some 50 cars and 120 participants, both young and old.
At present we have members not only in Argentina but also in Uruguay, Chile, Spain, Italy and the United States of America. Our international members use the yearly meetings to visit us and get acquainted with old and new friends as well as other Argentinean club members. The custom of looking for different mountain towns for every meeting gives our visitors the possibility to gain a good knowledge of our impressive province.
The presence of the Primer Club del Ford T de Argentina in different towns in the province of Cordoba great pleasure to thousands of tourists and towns people who enjoy and enthusiastically applaud the passing of the caravan of antique cars. Our spirit is in pride we take in the restoration of our antiques and at the same time we emphasize the charming presence of ours cars which can also be shared by public in general. Especially interesting are our members dressed in 1920 period clothes on our tours. Our beautiful ladies, who dress in long dresses and parasols, are the highlight of the gathering.We think that our tours through the countryside and display of our cars in town squares and plazas contribute to the diffusion of the history of the Ford T and educate the public as to the beginning of the history of the modern car.
The year 2008 is not a common year for Model T Ford. It is a year to celebrate the 100th birthday Model T on the 1th of October 2008. We, the organizers, are energetically working to make this International Meeting the BEST EVER and we will ensure that our guests receive the best that Cordoba has to offer. We will enthusiastically welcome all visitors to our centennial celebration.
